Richard B. Cheney, prominent public servant and businessman, is vice president. Cheney is a recognizable name in Washington over the years. George W. Bush was the president of the 4th generation to whom he served. Bush picked Cheney during the summer of 2000 to be his vice-presidential running mate, noting Cheney's judgment and insight. Dick Cheney served as the chief of staff to a president. He also served as an elected member of Congress and served as the secretary of defense. Republicans as well as Democrats alike respect his honesty. Cheney has said that he regards his role as an honest but discrete adviser in Bush's administration. When he accepted the Republican vice-presidential nod Cheney said that he is looking at serving alongside one who can work to get things done by engaging across the partisan divide and working with political opponents to achieve a mutual goals. Richard Bruce Cheney, son of Richard Herbert Cheney & Marjorie Lauraine Dickey was born on 30 January 1941, in Lincoln Nebraska. When he was 13 years old, Bruce accompanied his parents in Casper (in the state of Wyoming) where his father worked as the Director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's soil conservation district.
